About Smith Safety Group

Hardware and protective-equipment experience since 1972

David Smith was born into the hardware business. From as early as eight years old, he was helping at his family’s hardware store—sweeping floors, stocking shelves and learning how to serve customers.

By age 10, he was running the cash register; by 13, he was working in sales; and by 18, he was a store manager. At age 22, David, his sister and his brother-in-law purchased the family business from their parents and developed it into one of Canada’s largest Home Hardware stores.

After the business was sold in 2011, David remained active in the industry, supplying protective equipment to retailers across Canada. In 2020, he partnered with his sons Gavin and Troy to launch Smith Safety Group.

From our family to yours

Gavin and Troy grew up visiting the family hardware store and helping their father with deliveries, invoices and the everyday work of serving customers. Smith Safety Group continues that family-business tradition by supplying practical safety products to individuals, workplaces and organizations across Canada.

We sell through our Canadian online store in Canadian dollars and ship within Canada. Smith Safety Group is an authorized distributor of the brands identified on our product pages. Product-specific manufacturer designations and documented specifications are listed with the applicable products.
